Algebra saw the potential of WordCamp Split as the most important annual event of Croatian WordPress community, and as such wanted to become our Educational partner. Today we’re talking with them to learn more about what they do and what is their connection with WordPress and the Croatian WordPress community.
Algebra is the leading Croatian (and regional) private education system and you are on the market for the past 20 years. Can you tell us more about the past?
Throughout almost 20 years of work, Algebra has become the most important regional educational partner of Microsoft, Cisco, Adobe, Autodesk, ECDL,VMware, EC-Council and other companies. In adult education, we educate around 18.000 attendants of various seminars and educational programs annually, while in higher education, we enroll more than 200 new students per year. The most significant indicator of the quality and recognizability of the whole group is represented by – Award for the best educational center in the world in 2014 according to Microsoft, out of 3200 institutions in the competition.
Besides, of the leading educational system in adult education, Algebra University College is ranked top rated professional study program in Croatia by the Agency for Science and Higher Education. Algebra University College carries out three undergraduate and graduate study programs – computer engineering, multimedia computing and digital marketing, and also new Algebra University program – e-Leadership MBA and the executive MBA study programs.
WordPress is an important part of our educational programs
You haven’t been actively involved with Croatian WordPress community but that is changing now. You yourself held a talk at WordPress Meetup in Zagreb, now you have 2 workshops at WordCamp Split. What is Algebra’s connection with WordPress?
80% of Algebra Group web pages and project uses WordPress as a CMS. One of the reason is that we need a platform that can easily be used for a variety tasks carried out by high qualified developers, data analyst, bloggers, designers, authors and other employees. WordPress is also a part of Algebra’s educational programs for an adult such as one for Web designer and Digital marketing Specialist. It is also a part of the Algebra University College curriculum.
We know that IT sector is quite strong in Croatia, to say the least. Companies constantly search for new employees in “old technologies”. What’s the situation with WordPress as we see new agencies emerging each year?
The main Algebra Group’s goal is to produce new IT qualified professionals through the analysis of employers’ needs and based on analyzed characteristics of the labor market in Croatia. On a daily basis, we receive requests for skilled individuals from the IT industry employers, but not just them. WordPress skills are highly appreciated in all kinds of industries because these days there is almost no company that doesn’t have their own website, as we know that WordPress is the most popular CMS of the internet.

What are your plans for the next couple of years, especially with web design and development and WordPress?
Improve our development educations following new upcoming trend and innovations. Try and explore new interesting WordPress features that will make us more productive and successful.

What do you think about the Croatian WordPress community?
WordPress Croatia has a significant number of members so there is no better place to learn something new and solve problems within a group that share mutual interests and challenges. It is also great to check your surroundings, meet other users and walk away with solutions.
